Today's Main Story: Industry Urgently asks that NOAA not Skimp on Fish Surveys in Alaska
Industry groups in Alaska have grown increasingly concerned that NOAA will not be able to carry out the necessary surveys for stock assessment in Alaska in 2019. There are five vessel surveys normally carried out in the odd years, including the important survey in the Gulf of Alaska, which has seen extreme changes in fisheries stocks following the warm water blob that began in 2015. In a letter, the groups said these surveys were the highest priority of the N. Pacific fishery management council, and that NOAA would have to fund them at the appropriate levels...
